Twenty years ago, Birkey’s launched the first iteration of www.birkeys.com. As the brand and equipment have grown, so has birkeys.com. Take a look at these screenshots through the years to see the transformation of our website.
Over time as the business has grown, the need for an online presence in the used equipment market has become very evident. Our team here at Birkey’s has always worked hard to stay one step ahead of the curve by keeping our eyes and ears open. We hear great feedback from our stores on features they’d like to see to help you know what they offer, but also from customers over the years.
Today, birkeys.com accounts for a significant percentage of our used equipment sales and we are constantly striving to make it your one-stop shop for browsing and viewing our vast inventory. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled as our next rendition of the website will be launched soon.
Fun facts about our website:
Birkey’s had 8 locations when we launched the website.
8 million individual page views since we started tracking in late 2009.
Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2014, the 2nd annual National Strip-Tillage Conference will feature more than 20 presentations during the course of two education-packed days from Aug. 5-6 at the Coralville Marriott Hotel in Iowa City, Iowa.
The unique event brings together a diverse group of top strip-tillers, consultants and researchers who share experience-based tips and techniques that both veteran and recent adopters of strip-till can put to work immediately in their operations. The conference will also get equipment dealers quickly up to date on the newest strip-till techniques and trends. (more…)
The choices you make can affect your equipment value and the quality of next year’s crop. Craig Greenwood, Birkey’s Service Manager in Hoopeston, shares his top 8 tips for after-season planter maintenance:
This past summer was the first time Gary Appleby had ever seen a drone flown. “A farmer I know just north of Villa Grove has one for scouting. He programmed a flight path into his laptop, took off, scouted the whole field, and then landed in the road.”
This growing season, Gary will have the chance to try it himself. He’s the winner of Birkey’s drone giveaway.
It’s an unfortunate truth: if you’re reading this, chances are you know a family that has been affected by a farm-related accident. The good news is, many steps have been taken to make the industry safer, including the creation of National Farm Safety Week. This year, the week of September 21-27 gives the ag community the chance to focus on safety.
Safety is high priority at Birkey’s–it has to be. The majority of farm accidents involve the use of machinery, and 90% of our employees work on or around machinery every day.
When asked about farm safety, many Birkey’s employees had stories to tell or reminders to offer to customers and friends. Here are tips from six service techs: (more…)

Urbana Store Manager Brian McCoy shakes hands with George Preocanin, Senior Sales Director at Case Construction. Case CE representatives Michael Bergstrom and Neil Detra are also present.
Birkey’s Construction Equipment, with dealerships in Bloomington, Galesburg, Mattoon, and Urbana, has been awarded Diamond Dealer status by Case Construction Equipment for the second consecutive year. The partnership program encompasses parts and service, sales and training, and includes more than 45 specific criteria.
For most people, Birkey’s is closely associated with one manufacturer—Case IH. Birkey’s has carried the brand since it was introduced back in the 1980s and was a strong International Harvester dealer before Case and IH joined forces. So, for all intents and purposes, the dealership has carried the same brand since its founding 60 years ago.
But two questions are worth asking:
Why did we choose Case IH? And why should our customers choose us to be their Case IH dealer?

1. Long Relationships Develop Rapport
Birkey’s long history has led to an excellent relationship with Case IH. Mike Carley, a Birkey’s owner and regional manager for agricultural products, explains:
We are one of their largest dealerships, and they take us very seriously. We have great respect for each other.
This means customers of Birkey’s are on the front end of Case IH innovations and promotions. If it’s new at Case IH, you’ll find it here first. (more…)
Many Birkey’s employees have a second job title: Dad.
And when it comes to Father’s Day gifts, these two titles are a winning combination.
Working at the store keeps these dads up-to-date on the latest Case and Case IH tools and gadgets, so when we asked them to pick items they’d like to get for Father’s Day, they came up with a fantastic list. (more…)
Author Nici Baker and her family on their farm in Galesburg, IL
We hope your equipment is running smoothly and you’re making progress on #plant14. While families have been busy during this spring season, Birkey’s thought we could help with some Mother’s Day gift ideas that will keep our customers ahead of the game in the field and the farmhouse.
Birkey’s own Nici Baker—farm mom, creative gift-giver, and Office Manager in Galesburg—used farmer-friendly criteria to create her list. Whether you’re a farm mom yourself looking for a way to honor the woman who taught you everything you know, a new dad saying “thanks” for all your wife does to care for the kids, or even a Birkey’s customer outside the ag industry, each of these gifts is thoughtful, affordable, and easily found in a rural community.
