Tech Tip: Cars, Trucks and Off-Road Equipment Need Different Oils
We all know how important the engine is to our equipment. We also know that engine repairs can be costly. With proper maintenance, engines will perform reliably, and for longer.
While we know engine oil must be changed, knowing when and what oil should be used is key. Operator manuals indicate service intervals for equipment operating under “normal” conditions, while “extreme” conditions require more frequent service. Short tripping, extended idling, dirty/dusty conditions are just a few examples of such conditions.
Once a schedule is established, the appropriate oil should then be selected. Different applications require different oils. Load factors are an important factor and can vary between vehicle types: cars operate around 30%, trailer-pulling trucks 60%, and off-road equipment around 90% of available horsepower. Off-road engines experience higher loads, more dust, soot, etc. and require a different oil.
Birkey’s recommends OEM-approved oils for your Case construction equipment. We also have maintenance programs specifically designed to eliminate maintenance hassles and prolong equipment life. Take advantage of our bulk oil delivery service, stop by or call us and we would be happy to discuss this further or help with any of your service needs.
