Chris Rewerts, Master Tech at Birkey's Farm Store in Henry, offers some basics on moisture bypass sensor maintenance. He explains where to find your moisture bypass sensor, how to maintain it, and how to troubleshoot one common problem. Read the tips below, or watch the video.
Locating the Moisture Bypass Sensor
On a Flagship combine, the moisture bypass sensor is on the inside of the elevator. On a Midrange combine, it is located on the outside of the elevator.
Maintaining the Moisture Bypass Sensor
- Remove the pins and take the bushing out. Then remove the auger.
- Make sure the space is clean before reinstalling the parts.
Troubleshooting the Moisture Bypass Sensor
- A major complaint our techs get regarding the moisture bypass in-season is that it is not working--the numbers are not moving
- Typically, this means that it was packed full, the auger stuck, and the fuse was blown.
- The fuse is located at the moisture bypass sensor on a Midrange or Flagship combine. In Legacy combine, the fuse is located underneath the armrest in the fuse block.
- The fuse is only 5 amps. You should not replace the fuse with anything bigger than a 7.5 amp fuse.
