Birkey's Preferred School – Parkland College, Champaign, IL

Technical/academic education at Parkland College plus on-the-job experience at a Birkey’s location. Case New Holland (CNH) Service Technician training at Parkland leads you to an Associate in Applied Science degree with a major in Industrial and Farm Equipment Technology in just two years. The objective of the CNH Service Technician program is to provide apprenticeships to students who are enrolling in the diesel technician program at Parkland College in Champaign, IL. This will prepare him or her for a career at Birkey's.

The scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 per semester (fall/spring) to be paid for the first year of studies and $2,000 per semester (fall/spring) to be paid for the second year of studies.

Qualifications for Apprenticeship

To qualify for the apprenticeship program, one must meet and/or be able to do the following:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have legal permission to be employed in the United States;
  • Must be at least 17 years of age to apply and be 18 years of age at the start of the apprenticeship in August;
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; 
  • Must obtain a minimum score on an aptitude test measuring reading, writing and math skills;
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds, bend, stoop, crawl and work in confined spaces;
  • Must be able to lift, carry and manipulate tools and materials common to the trade;
  • Must be able to pass a physical as related to the specific job qualifications and remain free of any non-prescription drugs. Drug screening is required;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a motor vehicle report acceptable to Birkey’s auto insurance carrier;
  • Must be able to read, hear, understand and follow written and verbal instructions;
  • Must be willing to follow instructions and to work cooperatively with others; and
  • Must be able and willing to follow safety procedures.
