After-Planting Air Clutch Maintenance

Before you store your planter for the season, take some time to maintain your air clutch system. Todd Weitekamp demonstrates how in this video.

In order to service the clutches, you'll need 2 products (both are available at your local Birkey's store).

  • Oil for the cylinder: Bimba Lube – Trimble P/N 68358
  • Lubricant for the clutch assembly: Spray-on All Purpose Silicone Lube - Trimble P/N 68357

Before you service the clutches, make sure all the moisture is drained out of the air tank. Go to each row unit and take the air line out of the clutch assembly, then energize all the row units. Cycle them several times to be sure that no moisture is remaining in the air lines. When you are confident that the air lines are dry, put the air line back in.

Move to the back of the planter. To service the air clutch, pull up the after-market cover and rotate it. Remove the screw and give a 2-second blast of all-purpose silicone lubricant. Replace the screw.

Next, release the air line and put one drop of Bimba lube. Replace the air line. Return the protective cover to its original position.

The last step is to cycle the pneumatic piston to be sure the Bimba lube coats the walls of the cylinder. You would also go into your Pro 700 and rotate the drive shaft to be sure that what you've sprayed in coats the internal parts.

We hope this video helped you maintain your TruCount Air Clutch system post-planting season. Is there another topic you'd like our experts to explain? Make a suggestion in the comments below.
