Precision Farming for Harvest:

Setting Up a Pro 700

This video will demonstrate how to set up a Pro 600 or Pro 700 combine monitor to harvest corn and beans. Birkey’s Master Technician in Henry, Chris Rewerts, provides the demonstration.

Setting Up Your Header

The first step is to plug in your head. Mid-Range and Flagship combines should automatically know what head is attached.

To double check, touch “Back,” then “Toolbox.” Scroll to the right until you see “Head 1” and “Head 2”. In Head 1, it will probably not be possible to modify the header type and cutting type. This is because the monitor has automatically sensed the type of header that’s attached to your machine. The only variables that need to be adjusted on this screen are “Frame Type” and “Total Rows.”

The Head 2 tab offers more options. In the video, Chris points out the most-used options. These include header sensors, header pressure floats, sensitivities, raise rates, snails (called “Reel End Dividers”), and deck plates.

Selecting Your Crop Type

When the head is set correctly, click “Back” and navigate to the “Run” screens. In one of your Run screens, you’ll have a crop type. Generally, it is Run 2. You can place it wherever you’d like. Change your “Crop Type” to the correct option.

Customizing Automatic Crop Settings (ACS)

To utilize your automatic crop settings, click “Back” and navigate to the “ACS” tab (Automatic Crop Settings). This option is typically found on Flagship models. In the tab, select your “Work Condition.” You can fine-tune these setting and click “ACS Save.” If you’ve done this, every time you switch from corn to beans in your crop type, it will automatically bring up your saved settings.
